Disgustation.

newpoll

Completely unsurprised the support for the Conservatives has skyrocketed.  Now Harper has everyone exactly where he wants them – he can dictatorially set his budget the way he wants, or else there will be an election.  Either way he wins – a budget he wants, or a new majority judging from this poll.  All because the opposition parties made a comedy of errors.

To paraphrase Rex Murphy, it’s times like these you learn that Canadian politics these days is not Canadian politics, it’s partisan politics.

You learn that it’s politics, not government.

Especially in light of the inspiring Obamania, us Canadians look like small, power hungry, divisionist suit slime.  It definitely makes me contemplate entering public service in some light, whether it be working in a campaign I believe in, or working in Environment Canada or Natural Resources Canada.  Not to sound high and mighty, but all a leader needs is good communication skills, some sense of vision, good people to trust, and simply knowing to stay true to oneself even if it sheds a negative light once in awhile.  After the dust settles, they will be regarded for having integrity and maintaining that vision, leaving a great legacy for them and their party.   I’m likely oversimplifying, but I don’t see anything close to that in anyone in public office in Canada right now.

Obama could easily inspire a whole demo of his country to devote their lives to serving its citizens – in the environmental sector, energy, transportation, economy, infrastructure, you name it.  Maybe even getting paid less to do the right thing, what an idea.  In Canada, we have the entire electorate feeling a deeply rooted frustration towards Ottawa.  We live in a truly great country, why doesn’t our government reflect this greatness?
