What a surprising and impressive Saturday night in Kitchener, Ontario. Don’t tell me there is nothing going on in this city. For the past week or so, The Kitchener Symphony hosted an avant garde music festival called Open Ears, featuring experimental, classical, and electronic focused music. Some friends paid $22 to see NY indie heroes The Books, pictures below:
After the show, the wrap party was in Kitchener’s new gentrifyish-sounding neighbourhood, The Tannery District. Think of every post-modern NY/TO art show. Desecrated industrial concrete, an eye widening trapeze artist, jungle playing outside, minimal and progressive house inside, concept rooms, installations, random film projected on crumbling brick, and a unfortunately low stock of beer. So hip it hurt so good. A ton of fun, and a late night. Thanks to Cassie and her crew for the invite!
