I’ve been a Chad fan for a few years now. This is the only Chad of which I am a fan. Chad joke!  Soft Airplane is my standout favourite album of his. The new album Diaper Island is what my high school golf instructor used to call a “good miss”.

My favourite on the new album is Sara.  Very reminiscent of past successes. His M.O. clearly takes after one of my favourite quotes about music from a musician I barely enjoy (please see above). This is Chad’s greatest gift to us all – the scariest stuff set to unassuming, cute indie rock. Enjoy the skinnyboy prettyvoice and all of its opposing glory.

Come drink the Mike C sweet tea. Where the powers of Americana and Britannica combine.  The word “ambient” in the album name. Spacious tasteful basslines, anthem guitars, vocals a la Verve’s Urban Hymns, urban imagery in the lyrics.  Come to the  City.  Leave the City.

The War on Drugs is a Philadelphia, PA rock band.  Originally started by the now famous Kurt Vile along with friend Adam Granduciel.  That’s all I know really.  But hey, you found a friend.

This summer was faster and greater. I smoked a lot of meat on my Weber charcoal kettle bbq, and now my bloodstream’s creosote levels have increased 800%.  Ohhh smoke.

Given the high degree of euphoria and romanticism in the coverage by both Western and Arab media of recent popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, it would be useful for everyone to take a few deep breaths and remind ourselves that revolutions often look very attractive in the beginning. Then they usually go through some really bad periods; the French reign of terror and the decade of political turmoil that followed, the crushing oppression of Soviet communism in Russia, and the unfinished misery of Iranians.

I would like to be optimistic, and there are some positive signs in Tunisia and Egypt. Both countries have strong traditions of national pride, histories of constitutionalism, cultural riches, and a middle class of educated men and women. So far, the armed forces in both countries have shown a degree of professionalism and discipline that have earned the respect of both popular forces and key civilian government institutions. Both have had respectable economic growth rates at a time of global economic distress. Regrettably, however, there are also major factors working against a happy outcome in the next several years.
